چکیده
Abstract Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are toxic pollutants which persist in the environment. Extraction of polycyclic requires large volumes organic solvents, but use non-hazardous solvents provides a potentially cleaner approach to quantifying environmental matrices. Here we investigated efficiency eucalyptus oil extract from spiked soil and sediment. Eucalyptus extraction conditions including temperature, time, volume were optimized employing Box–Behnken experimental design, desorption kinetics phenanthrene, pyrene, chrysene, benzo[a]pyrene evaluated using an empirical first order kinetic model. Results show that soil, 112% for 108% 102% chrysene 98% benzo[a]pyrene, is higher than sediment, 90, 111, 84 82%, respectively. This may be due possessing 12 times more carbon. Recoveries 77% obtained over concentration range 0.5–10 mg/kg tested hydrocarbons, with limits detection lower 63 µg/kg quantitation 125 µg/kg. These findings suggest has potential as safer solvent hydrophobic contaminants.

Pressurised Liquid Extraction of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons from Soil and Sediment Samples
Pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) is essentially an analyteand matrix-independent technique. It provides cleaner extracts than the time-consuming classical procedures. In this study, PLE was miniaturised and performed in a stainless-steel cell of 10 mm x 3 mm I.D. 50 mg amounts of the solid samples were packed in the holder. After being subjected to the PLE procedure, 50 out of 100-μl extract...
متن کاملTransport of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in a Calcareous Wetland Soil
Knowledge of transport and degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is important in assessing PAH contamination of soils and water resources. The transport of naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene and phenanthrene was determined in a contaminated calcareous soil obtained from the Shadegan wetland (Khozestan, Iran) considering a column study in laboratory conditions. The PAHs were added ...
متن کاملMineralization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by a bacterium isolated from sediment below an oil field.
Microbiological analyses of sediments chronically exposed to petrogenic hydrocarbons resulted in the isolation of a gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium which mineralized naphthalene (59.5% of the original amount), phenanthrene (50.9%), fluoranthene (89.7%), pyrene (63.0%), 1-nitropyrene (12.3%), 3-methylcholanthrene (1.6%), and 6-nitrochrysene (2.0%) to carbon dioxide when grown for 2 weeks in ...
متن کاملEvaluation of extraction methods of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from soil and sewage sludge matrix
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a large group of organic contaminants with related chemical structure and properties. In natural conditions, these compounds usually are in the form of mixtures. As their main source there are given the human activities. PAHs are composed of at least two aromatic rings without any additional substituents. A direct consequence of such structure are low...
متن کاملMultiple Stage Cross-current Extraction Using Vegetable Oil in the Remediation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons-contaminated Soil
The present study aims to compare the efficiency of a single extraction and a 3-stage cross-current extraction of PAHs from both lowly contaminated (LC) and highly contaminated (HC) sands using palm kernel and soybean oils (PKO, SO). It is observed that 3-stage cross-current extractions increase the total efficiencies compared to single extractions by 18.7–22.7% and 27.2–30.6% for LC and HC san...
